Milan Sport and Outdoor ActivitiesThere are an enormous amount of Milan sports available to visitors in the city and being only minutes away from many nearby towns, it has a wide range of activities to tempt all lovers of the outdoors. Milan's sporting calendar is full of exciting events throughout the year.

Milan Sports: Milan Football / Soccer (Calcio) - Milan, Italy
Football is a real passion amongst the Italians and Milan is no exception. Milan's two highly regarded national football teams are Inter and AC Milan. Fans should go to the vast Meazza (San Siro Stadium) , which has a seating capacity of over 80,000, where many exciting matches are played. It is advisable not to drive as parking spaces can prove difficult to find. The best way to get there is to take Line 1 of the metro to the Lotto stop and then take a shuttle bus to the stadium itself.




Five-a-side football is also very popular in Milan and there are good facilities at the Centro Peppino Vismara and also the Palauno, where there are several pitches.

The northern Italians love the sport of cycling and there are many cycling events throughout the year. For more information on current cycling events, the best place to look is in the sports pages of local newspapers. Alternatively, if you wish to cycle yourself, there are many bicycle rental shops in and around Milan and this provides a great way to travel around Milan and the surrounding countryside.

There are several main golf courses near to Milan, offering a good game with some splendid views. Le Rovedine Golf Club is located around 7 km / 4 miles from Milan city centre and has excellent facilities, including a good restaurant. There are also state-of-the-art golf courses in the lovely natural settings of Lake Maggiore.

There are several well-equipped fitness centres in this city, with fitness and weight training, aerobic courses, personal trainers, saunas, solariums, steamrooms, hydrotherapy and massage.

The Lido is Milan's most popular outdoor swimming pool and often attracts large crowds from June to September. With slides and good facilities, it is a great place to come for a swim during the heat of summer in Milan. Other indoor swimming pools in Milan include the Piscina Giovanni da Procida, which has a half-size Olympic pool and also a good gymnasium - and the Piscina Solari, which has a large five lane pool.

Milan has many tennis courts in and around the city and it is often best to book ahead by telephone. Popular venues include:

  • Associazone Sporting Club Corvetto - with many indoor courts as well as a gymnasium, bar and restaurant
  • Centro Sportivo Mario Saini - with 12 courts that are either covered or open to the air, depending upon the season
  • Tennis Club 5 Pioppi - situated in the Fieri district, this club has four courts that can be used throughout the year

Monte Stella Park, located near to the San Siro Stadium is one of the best places for jogging in Milan. The park has many marked pathways around the large area of greenery and trees.

Many types of water sport are available at Milan's numerous lakes. Lake Garda is renown for windsurfing, with Torbole and Riva also being popular places for surfers to come throughout the year. Other aquatic sports in Milan's lakes include canoeing, sailing, water-skiing, rowing and for a more relaxing time, there are plenty of opportunities to go fishing. All of the lakes in Milan have clubs where you are able to rent equipment at reasonable prices.
